I'm Margaret Evans. I want to share stories of understanding animals through many years of experience and my curiosity with science.

Why do animals do what they do? From dog woofs to cat whiskers and the whinnies of horses and ponies, my stories explore the love we have for our pets, our rich communication with them, and our fascination with their natural wisdom and instincts. I really hope you enjoy them!

I want to include curious scientific findings about dogs, cats and horses in my blogs. Just recently, researchers used cats as taste testers to scientifically identify  their preferred taste compounds in kibble. In another study therapy dogs helped first year university students cope with their mental health challenges. And in Finland researchers proved that horses living in groups follow human direction better than when they live in individual paddocks.

But mostly I want to share the wisdom and insights I have learned from our animals over the years and decades. There's Duncan who rediscovered a moment of stallion behaviour when he wanted to protect 'his' mares from the neighbour's horses, Spike who never liked  being trailered alone, and Zeus who had secret places to bury his pizza treats which no one was allowed to see.
